Sheldon Eisenberger

I was arrested on bribery charges in NJ in December 2013. At the time of my arrest, I was released on bail of 300K which I posted. In January 2014, I began the search for a defense attorney for my case in NJ and me and my wife met Mr. Eisenberger to get legal advice. He advised us that he had expe...rience with criminal cases in NJ like ours and so we retained him. We agreed to retain him and signed the contract with him on January 13th 2014. In the course of retaining him, we asked Mr. Eisenberger if it would be ok to send 600K to Israel to close on a real estate deal that was pending before my arrest. We were concerned it might look bad given my arrest. Mr. Eisenberg advised us it was ok and would not violate the law or raise suspicions. He was wrong. As a result of Mr. Eisenberger’s advice, we wired the money, but the wire was intercepted by the government. The government then claimed that I was trying to flee and raised the bail to over a million dollars. Mr. Eisenberger represented me during the bail hearing but did not take responsibility for my actions that were done based on his advice. I was rearrested and put under house arrest until I was able to come up with the new bail. As things were going from bad to worse I realized that I needed an attorney that actually does deal with such cases, to which end I hired Jeff Ifrah about a week and a half after I signed an agreement with Mr. Eisenberger. It does not seem fair that I should pay legal fees for bad advice received and that I suffered personally for bad advice received. To add insult to injury, the invoices I did receive from Mr. Eisenberger also included fees for travel to and from home that were not part of our retainer agreement and the time entries appeared to be significantly exaggerated, such as 9.5 hours being billed in one date for a conference call among other minor things. The original advice was wrong, it caused me to incur unnecessary legal fees, and put me in bad light with the government, in addition then I was charged for unauthorized travel time and exaggerated time entries. I tried to resolve this issue with Eisenberger directly and he told me to go ahead and file my complaint with the NY Bar which I did. I am preparing to file a malpractice case against Mr. Eiseneberger.
