Lisa Pearson

Lisa Pearson, a partner in Kilpatrick Townsend's New York office, is an experienced, versatile and creative litigator specializing in copyright, trademark, unfair competition, and Internet-related disputes. She has also designed and implemented comprehensive policing, enforcement and anticounterfeiting programs for many well-known rights owners. She has represented clients across a broad spectrum of industries (including fashion and luxury goods, publishing, entertainment, consumer products, advertising, hotel and travel and many others). She was formerly a partner at Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu, P.C.

Ms. Pearson received her undergraduate degree from Yale College (summa cum laude and with distinction in the English major), where she was elected into Phi Beta Kappa and received the Mifflin and Seymour Prizes for academic excellence. At Columbia University School of Law, she ranked as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, received first prize in the law school's ASCAP Copyright Law Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition, and served as an associate editor on the Columbia Human Rights Law Review. Following law school, she joined one of New York's foremost general litigation firms, where she enjoyed an extremely diverse complex litigation practice, handling contract, securities, tort, First Amendment, white collar crime, International Trade Commission and even death penalty cases, in addition to intellectual property.

Since 1991, Ms. Pearson has focused on intellectual property litigation and counseling. She has obtained excellent results for her clients in federal and state courts across the United States, in Uniform Dispute Resolution proceedings to recover domain names, and in cancellation and opposition proceedings in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Ms. Pearson has a keen interest in alternative dispute resolution methods, has been selected as a Distinguished Neutral by the International Trademark Association (“INTA”) and has successfully resolved numerous disputes through mediation, arbitration and favorable settlements. Because she endeavors to find sensible business solutions to legal problems, she has also assisted clients in negotiating and drafting asset purchase agreements, intellectual property licenses and transfers, coexistence agreements, and other commercial agreements. She has counseled clients on a host of issues such as minimizing the litigation risks associated with adopting a new trademark, formulating sane strategies for dealing with infringements on the Internet, copyright and trademark rights in characters, idea submission procedures, and the popular parody and fair use defenses in infringement cases.

Ms. Pearson is a frequent speaker and the author of many articles and papers on intellectual property issues.
