Amy J. Barrett

Amy J. Barrett, born and raised in New York City, is a successful Attorney who is admitted to practice law in the both the State and United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York State.

With a strong NYC civil servant family background with loved ones serving in the NYC Department of Sanitation, NYPD, NYC Department of Buildings, NYC Department of Education, as well as the Electrical, Construction and Ironwork industries, Ms. Barrett has a keen understanding of the needs of New Yorkers.

Ms. Barrett has devoted substantial practice to the areas of Matrimonial and Family Law, advocating for clients with respect to pre-nuptial agreements, paternity, child support, child custody/visitation, separation, divorce, and orders of protection – with marital assets of up to $40 million; Trusts and Estates, preparing testamentary documents, including Wills, Health Care Proxies, Living Wills, Powers of Attorney and Trusts as well as Estate Administration.  Ms. Barrett presently serves as a court appointed advocate for children.

Ms. Barrett is an experienced litigator and prior to founding The Barrett Law Firm, P.C., enjoyed a long career at NYC law firms. As result of her work, Ms. Barrett offers a unique and diverse combination of experience, having worked in the areas of civil and complex commercial litigation, handling personal injury and motor vehicle accident claims, premises liability and toxic tort claims, involvement in the representation of product and equipment manufacturers and distributors, construction litigation, providing corporations, real estate developers, investors, and non-profit organizations with comprehensive legal and business advise, insurance coverage matters; involvement in the representation of religious and educational institutions in defamation and negligent supervision claims, NYC landmarks designation.

A common thread throughout the course of her career has been the appreciation she’s earned from clients with whom Ms. Barrett was involved of her legal acumen coupled with her compassion as they faced a difficult process.

​As a native New Yorker, Ms. Barrett has enjoyed participating in a number of community organizations at various points in her career, including the Queens College (CUNY) Continuing Education, American Bar Association Accredited Paralegal Program, where she has served as an Advisory Board Member and as an Adjunct Instructor; The Hundred Year Association of New York, where she currently serves as Chair of the the Alumni Committee; the Civil Court of the City of New York, where she serves as a Small Claims Court Arbitrator in the Civil Court of the City of New York; and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, where, as the proud daughter of a Veteran, she serves as a VA accredited attorney, offering volunteer services to individuals who qualify for services through that program.

Ms. Barrett is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School and earned her undergraduate degree at St. John's University. Ms. Barrett is presently a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Bar Association of the City of New York.
