Michael S. Devorkin

Mr.Devorkin specializes in complex business litigation and government investigations and has also frequently represented Trustees.  For examples In the recent bankruptcies of LandAmerica (corporate negligence) and 1031 Tax Group (Ponzi Scheme), he led ted the Trustee's legal team that recoverd and paid out $317 million, and $140 million, rspectively, to victims, resulting in returns in excess of 100% and 70% of losses.  Court praised work as "masterful" and result as "huge success" the "hit it out of the park."

He has extensive experience in all phases of litigation, has tried to verdict numerous jury and non-jury cases in federal and state courts and arbitratilon proceedings, and has argued numerous appeals, including two successful mandamus petitions.  In re United States, 608 F.2d 26 (2d Cir. 1979); Richardson Greenshileds Securities, Inc. v. Lau, 825 F.2d 647 (2d Cir. 1987). 

As a federal prosecutor, received award for sucessfful organized crime/waterfront prosecutions.  United States v. Clemente, 640 F.2d 1069 (2d Cir. 1980; and represented Government in major employement discrimination cases.  E.E.O.C. v. Newspaper and Mail Deliverers' Union, 384 F.Supp 585 (S.D.N.Y. 1974 ), aff'd, 514 F.2d 767 (2d Cir. 1975); E.E.O.C. v. Locals 14 and 15, 415 F.Supp. 1155 (S.D.N.Y. 1976).
