She began her career as a trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division's Fair Housing Section, a position she held from 1972 to 1974.
She is licensed to practice in New York State, Trial and Appellate Courts, and Federal Courts. She was admitted to the Bar for New York State, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second and Sixth Circuits, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
Elyse currently is a member of several family law committees. As a member of the Women's Bar Association, she currently serves on the Family Law Committee. Moreover, she is an active member of the Family Law section of the New York State and American Bar Associations. As a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, she has served on the Federal Courts Committee and is currently serving on the Matrimonial Committee.
