Alan J Barth

Alan is a member of the trademark, derivatives and energy practice groups at Schwell Wimpfheimer & Associates.  He deals with various aspects of trademarks, including prosecution of trademarks from prefiling searches through registration and trademark opposition proceedings.

As part of the derivatives and energy practice groups, Alan negotiates sophisticated agreements for a Fortune 100 energy company, including: commodities derivatives; agreements for the purchase and sale of energy commodities, including oil, natural gas, and electricity; and guarantees and letters of credit securing the aforementioned transactions.

Alan negotiates agreements with domestic and international counterparties, being familiar with both U.S. and European documentation.  Prior to joining SWA, in association with a prestigious Israeli boutique IP firm, he prosecuted trademark applications and handled a variety of contested matters before the USPTO.  He served as in-house counsel at Jet Spray International, handling global commercial agreements, and acting as counsel through its merger and acquisition, and was contracts manager for Project Galaxy at Israel Aerospace Industries, Ltd.  Alan began his legal career in private practice, in Connecticut, concentrating in the areas of creditors’ rights and bankruptcy for 16 years including serving as counsel to creditors’ committees and as a trustee in bankruptcy.
