Thomas Richard Cherry

Tom Cherry focuses on representing European, particularly German-speaking , clients confronted with liability claims in the United States. Issues of cross-border liability, contract law, risk management, fact gathering and cost containment predominate in these matters.

Until 2003 Tom had worked for 13 years as an English solicitor and attorney in Wilson Elser’s London office. During this period he provided advice on non-contentious insurance matters and defended German, British, Japanese and Korean companies in various English and U.S. forums. Prior to joining Wilson Elser in 1988, Tom spent five years as a resident legal adviser and claims manager at a German casualty insurer. He also practiced law in Seattle, WA, where he gained significant trial experience over the course of five years as a deputy prosecutor for King County.

Tom places a high value on meeting face to face with the firm’s . clients to build trust and to gain a better understanding of their specific operations and legal needs. The value and depth of Tom’s legal advice are bolstered by the cultural perspective and linguistic ability he gained working outside the United States for more than 20 years as well as by his practical understanding of the London and European insurance markets. A keen sailor and boat owner, Tom has qualified for and maintains a Master Merchant Mariner’s license with the U.S. Coast Guard.
