most attorneys suggest not paying the civil demand. In a case of shoplifting, if the police havent been called it's unlikely they will be.

It is not uncommon that restraining orders are used as both shields and swords. You should speak to your boyfriend's attorney about the situation....

Unless there is some evidence of abuse, other then a neighbor saying she "thinks" he hits you, then you shouldn't worry.
