Hiring him was the worst decision

As first-time home buyer, I now know how important a good lawyer can be, also realized how miserable your life would be with a bad lawyer. I hired this guy per recommendation by the broker, I wish I didn't. I was in a hurry to get the contract signed and he never seemed care about that. Two or three ...days without any update during the contract reviewing process. Often he said he would call me in an hour (email usually came between 6-7pm makes me feel he only took a look at my stuff after normal business hour), then you still won't hear anything from him. I have complained to my broker about his in-responsiveness, but broker said he's busy etc. I mean, everybody is busy at their work. If you don't have the time, then don't take my job. If you don't have time to provide me an update, maybe should delegate to your team member to do so, it's not like I am asking to change anything, but simply wanted to know what's going on. It took three weeks to finally get the contract signed. Then I went on to deal with mortgage. I had a question about prepaid interest. This guy did a terrible job explaining what that is. I made it very clear that I don't want to pay out-of-pocket prepaid interest and have no problem start paying first mortgage payment in the month of closing date. He constantly used those terms to explain which wasn't helpful at all, and told me I can't avoid paying it. And even complained to me about I have asked too many questions. Well, eventually I did avoid it. Then the most recent problem is co-op assessment fee. I got it on my first bill which shocked me, because I wasn't aware what that is. I should't pay for it as I just moved in, and the assessment is for the past year. This should be something he should be aware during due diligence and to discuss at the closing. Nothing. Now I've tried all possible ways to contact him to get his advice: email, office phone, his cell, his new email with Barton as his firm has been acquired. It's been two weeks. No words. I even copied his team members. The whole experience made me feel sick. I thought since I paid you both attorney fees (me and the bank mortgage), I am supposed to get better service. Now I really don't expect anything from him. But I'll try my best to spread the words to the brokers, online reviews and every person I know: He is TERRIBLE!!! I am responsible for my words above.

Wonderful Attorney!

Mr. Ebert is a phenomenal real estate attorney. My husband and I spent about a year working with Mr. Ebert on the purchase of our brownstone, which was complicated by an erratic seller who had hired an incompetent lazy attorney. Despite these difficulties, Mr. Ebert never failed to be there for us.... He was instrumental in moving the transaction forward and always kept a close eye on our interests. The final contract was clearly negotiated in our favor, an advantage which ended up saving us tens of thousands of dollars as well as help smooth over a lot of closing details. Mr. Ebert’s patience and expertise is invaluable. He is a rare find and we would strongly recommend using him if you are ever in need of an attorney.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
