also known as Rob Cohen
My practice covers a wide-ranging array of complex litigation, arbitration and mediation matters. My areas of expertise include securities, shareholder and corporate disputes; breach of contract, fraud and trade secret disputes; corporate insolvency matters with an emphasis on adversary proceedings; antitrust; class actions; and appellate advocacy.
I have appeared before numerous federal and state courts, arbitration panels and mediations across the country. My clients come from many different industries, including financial services, private equity, payment and credit cards, manufacturing, energy and telecommunications. My pro bono work has focused on civl rights impact litigation on behalf of persons with mental illnesses as well as immigration-related matters.
Before founding Taylor & Cohen, I was a partner in the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. While at Kirkland, I was the recipient of the Firmwide Pro Bono Partner of the Year Award. After leaving Kirkland, I served for three years as Special Counsel and Director of Ethics and Lobbying Guidance for the New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics. In that capacity, I was responsible for developing and implementing historic financial disclosure regulations for entities engaged in lobbying activity in New York State. I also co-led major investigations of publicly-elected officials, including the landmark investigation that led to Assemblyman Vito Lopez's resignation from the New York State Assembly in 2013.
Prior to attending law school, I served for five years as a Legislative Assistant in the Washington, D.C. office of Representative Ed Pastor, where his work focused on Native American concerns, Western water rights, energy and the environment.
I earned my undergraduate cum laude degree in Mathematics from University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Benjamin Franklin Scholar. I graduated with honors from the University of Chicago Law School in 1999. I was a law clerk for the Honorable Michael Daly Hawkins in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
