Joel Abbott Wertheimer

Attorney bringing elite big law and top level government experience to civil rights litigation on behalf of the wrongfully convicted, falsely accused, and mistreated.

I started my career at two leading international law firms, Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP and Winston & Strawn LLP, where he worked on a broad spectrum of commercial litigation, arbitration, and antitrust matters. From 2013 to 2014, Mr. Wertheimer, I clerked for the Honorable Lorna G. Schofield, United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York.

In 2015, I left big law to serve as the Associate Staff Secretary to President Obama, remaining through the end of the President’s term. I then practiced civil rights at the David B. Shanies Law Office, representing clients throughout New York City and New Jersey, including Staten Island, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Essex County. 

I launched my own firm at the end of 2020, practicing civil rights and doing public policy consulting.
