There is no way you can do the change of status now. You need to go to the US Consulate in your country to get your H-1B visa before October 1st.

You can leave the US once your application is received by Immigration. Then you can come back when you have your fingerprint appointment.

You can start working for the new employer either they file a H-1B for your or after getting a green card through their sponsorship.

Since your wife is applying, it would not create a problem for you. You would need and additional financial sponsor.

Once you apply for Adjustment of Status, you should not re-enter without approved AP.
