Environmental toxic torts often occur without being seen — but their effects are difficult to miss, especially if you had the misfortune of being exposed to the causative substance or contaminant. Weitz & Luxenberg believes that the victims of environmental toxic torts are entitled to just compensation for their injuries, and that’s why we fight for them as hard as we do.

Todd Ommen, once an assistant attorney general who helped New York state bring environmental polluters to justice, has not strayed far from that noble pursuit since joining Weitz & Luxenberg in 2011. As an associate attorney with our Environmental Toxic Torts Litigation group, Mr. Ommen is responsible for helping victims of ecological perils — including groundwater pollution — caused by the negligence of corporations and others. While a member of the attorney general’s Environmental Protection Bureau, he won that entity’s Louis J. Lefkowitz Award for Outstanding Service. During his time there, he focused on recovering the costs of removing hazardous substances from affected sites, as well as defending New York state’s decisions regarding what hazardous waste sites were eligible for environmental remediation under itss Brownfields program. Mr. Ommen accepted that position in 2007, ending an eight-year stint with the law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges where he worked on intellectual property and complex commercial litigations. Mr. Ommen began the practice of law in 1999. He is admitted to act as counsel in the courts of New York state and at the federal level — specifically, the U.S. District Court in its New York Southern and Eastern jurisdictions and the U.S. Court of Appeals in its Second Circuit. He is a 1999 graduate of Villanova University School of Law, which conferred upon him a juris doctor degree. While a student there, he was named to the staff of the Villanova Law Review and inducted into the Order of the Coif national honor society.
