Don't waste your money and time

I just came back from a consultation with Alan and paid $100 for less than 10 minutes. I had a lawyer working on my current case, and as he was retiring, I had to look for another. I had high hopes since he was recommended on some kind of review site. Here are 3 main reasons why I strongly encourage ...you to look elsewhere. 1) His attitude: During the consultation, he refused to look at even the simplest letter from the government, and, believe me, I have had around 8 consultations with different lawyers, and he was the rudest of all. 2) He made assumptions before listening to my case. As I've said before, I have met many different lawyers. They all listened to me, asked me valid questions, looked through the paperworks, and gave relevant advices. They all gave me thoughtful feedback AFTER reviewing and hearing the materials. Alan, from the beginning, made incorrect assumptions. He can build his opinion after listening about my case, and that's fine. He came to a conclusion without even listening or reading through the materials, and he will probably do the same with you. 3) I was in to meet with Alan but at the end of the brief meeting, he delegated me to his associate. Into 30 seconds discussing about my case, he cut me off and called an associate in. He looked like he was in his late twenties, which made me think of him as an intern. I thought he was there to learn, which is fine with me. But later, Alan said, "ok well if you want to proceed, it will be $15,000 for the case and $2,000 for each trip. AND MY ASSOCIATE WILL TRAVEL. HE LIKES TO TRAVEL." I don't care if he likes to travel. Also, I'll pay even more for a good lawyer. But he didn't even introduce the associate, his experience, or even his name, NOR he asked me whether it would be okay for a different person to potentially handle my case. This is why I do not recommend seeing this lawyer. This is my honest opinion, and you can still proceed to work with him. However, there are plenty of good lawyers in NY. He is not one of them.
