Pragati Parikh

Ms Pragati required a $350 non-refundable retainer to represent me during the sale of my house. The retainer was signed and sent to her along with the Buyer's contract on Friday afternoon. At 9am Monday the Buyer withdrew and I notified Ms Pragati. She claimed to have spent time reading a basic on...e page contract and to have sent a communication back to the Buyer's attorney either on Friday or that weekend but did not cc me or my realtor. She has not provided a copy of this message as proof of activity on my behalf. When I asked her to return the retainer she refused. Ms Pragati noted that the retainer was signed and she had worked on my file even though there is no evidence of this. She also refused to apply the retainer or a portion of the retainer to a new contract. I subsequently spoke with other attorneys to understand if this was proper behavior. While the signed retainer is a legal document, consensus opinion was that, as there was no formal attorney review nor evidence of actions performed on my behalf, insisting on the full $350 payment appears contraindicated. This behavior may serve as notice to other potential clients that Ms Pragati may not be worthy of confidence. I was certainly disappointed.

House closing at times can be confusing if not a daunting task, especially when you are not close to the action. In my case, I was out of the country while my closing was done. Pragati was able to handle the entire transaction, not to ignore, few last minute hurdles posed from the buyer in the last m...inute and the house itself.
