Our signature land use and zoning practice draws on Ms. Edwards thirty-five years of experience working with owners and managers of commercial and residential real estate, on land use, zoning and a range of other issues, which includes her own experiences as an investor in and manager of commercial real estate. Likewise, the practice draws on Ms. Edwards twenty years of experience as a member of a local planning/zoning board, including ten years as the board's chairman, where her work included evaluating hundreds of land use applications and working extensively with real estate developers and their consultants including civil and traffic engineers and professional planners. Specifically, our firm's land use services include representing our clients before planning and zoning boards on applications for minor and major subdivisions, site plans, variances, and all other types of land use applications, together with applications for associated State government permits including those related to the presence of fresh water wetlands, stream encroachment and State highway access. Our associated real estate services include the representation of existing owners and purchasers of commercial and residential real estate in contract negotiations, financing, refinancing, leasing and foreclosure, among other projects.
Our signature State, local and municipal government practice has its roots in Ms. Edwards twenty years of public sector experience in the areas of municipal planning and zoning, finance, economic development, public works including roads, water and sewer services, law enforcement and communications. In addition to her twenty years of experience as a member of a planning/zoning board, from 2007 through 2014 Ms. Edwards served as an elected official in the Borough of Flemington, serving from 2011 through 2014 as the town's mayor. During her twenty-years in public service she routinely interacted and negotiated with State, County and local officials on a broad range of matters involving land use, environmental and transportation issues. Among her accomplishments as Mayor was the negotiation of a historic water source development and use agreement with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. From 2012 through 2014 she also served as a member of the Executive Board of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities. Our firm's State, local and municipal government services include advising municipal officials on the broad range of issues identified above. Additionally, our services include advising individual taxpayers on the same broad range of issues, as well as representing individuals before municipal, County and State boards, authorities and agencies.
Erica Edwards earned her law degree in 1991 from Duke University School of Law, one of the nation's top ten law schools as ranked by U.S. News and World Report in its annual survey. She is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, and of its sections on Land Use, Local Government, Real Property, Probate and Trust Law, Environmental Law and Construction.
Ms. Edwards' cumulative, first-hand experience in the areas of land use and zoning, real estate and State, local and municipal government, provide her with an insider's perspective that her clients find invaluable. This insider's perspective coupled with her legal knowledge and skill make Ms. Edwards a highly sought-after resource to investors, owners and managers of all types of real estate, municipal officials and individual taxpayers alike.
