Not Qualified to be a Bankrupcy Lawyer

I hired him Theodore Sliwinski to handle my Bankrupcy and made it very clear I wanted to wave my car that I financed and wanted to continue with the payments on it. The day I went to court for the Bankrucy he gave me the paper work to wave the car and never processed the paperwork after I filled th...em out and dropped them off at his office. I didn't find out about it until 6 months had passed and he said listen lady this case is closed and if you want to reopen it your going to have to pay me $400.00 he also disrespected me for filing Bankrupcy and if it wasn't for the fact that my sister was with me when I filled out the paperwork and dropped it off with me he would have made me pay him $400.00.

The client received her discharge. The case was approved. She was satisfied with the results. Bankruptcies are not always perfect. Some of the requests that this client made were not necessary. I have handled over 1500 chapter 7 cases. This client was one of my few complaining ones.

Did nothing. Poor in negotiations.

Very dissatisfied with the Ted Sliwinski. Hired him to assist me in negotiations, and explained the situation to him. He said he would be able to assist me. I paid him upfront. He called me and told me "good news, they offered....". Like he had done something miraculous. It was exactly the same offe...r I had told him about when I hired him, and wanted him to negotiate for me. I explained that to him, and he told me that anything else would be costly and we would have to go to trial. Why did he take my money then?? I explained this to him BEFORE I paid him. He hasn't called me back since. No closing letter. Nothing.

There are no guarantees when a lawyer is retained to try to work out a debt or a judgment. Most of the time I can produce a decent result for any client. Sometimes the creditors are not reasonable. There is a cost benefit analysis to any legal case. The client most likely did not want to listen to my advice. Lawyers try their best. There are no guaranteed results in this field.

Basic things: okay but TRIAL? HELL NO!!!

I was being sued and Mr.Sliwinski asked for the smallest retainer from several attorneys I consulted with. That should have been my first clue. He also missed deadlines and is certainly NOT the type of attorney who will fight for you. At times, it felt that he was on the plaintiff's side! He asked f...or and was granted leave of counsel. This meant he would no longer be my attorney and he did this one month before trial. In the end, I wound up taking three attorneys on by myself and the case was dismissed. Mr. Sliwinski is not a bad person. Please know that. If your case is simple AND you stay on top of him so he doesn't miss deadlines, (as he did with me), he will do. But if you're fighting for your life, please do yourself a favor: borrow the money needed and get yourself an attorney who is a bulldog in the pen. What was most disappointing about my experience with Mr.Sliwinski was that he wanted me to sign a settlement agreement that basically said I lied. That would be a lie and I couldn't live with myself if I signed that statement. It went against my interests. So Mr.Sliwinski dropped me and I took on opposing counsel by myself, on the phone. Since I had studied so much of my case, I was able to hold my own against the plaintiffs attorneys and the case was dismissed without me ever having to sign that lie. Please know that Mr. Sliwinski is a nice guy... He's just not the gladiator you need when everything is on the line. Good luck.

awful

my experience with Ted was nothing but awful, he did nothing but make my case worse, and I would never ever recommend him for someone to use as a lawyer. He is not professional, and is rude and never consults you about what he is about to do, he's an awful lawyer.

Failed to Settle Debt

I contracted for a simple job settling a debt. But this lawer took 6 weeks to just mail a settlement offer out and then made a totally bogus offer to boot. I never got the settlement and then had go hire another lawyer who recommended and filed a successful bankruptcy.

"I endorse this lawyer. When I was starting out as a sole practitioner in 2006, Ted provided work opportunities for me. More importantly, I was able to observe him at work, interact with clients, and gain from his experience in every facet of family law. This provided to me the framework for my own practice. Ted's legal knowledge is almost unlimited and his skills are unmatched. To this day, I continue to contact Ted when I am in need of an opinion or advice on how to proceed with a complex legal issue."

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
