Rita Polonsky empowers clients to get through the process of divorce with dignity...
“I have spent my professional life helping to clean up broken relationships in the least painful way possible. Divorce is not about winning. No one wins. If you are looking for a lawyer that will work with you to solve the very complicated issues involving fairly dividing marital property and reaching a reasonable way forward on issues of support or dealing with the most painful area of all, children and their well-being, please give me a call.”
Rita began practicing law in 1986 as an associate of Jacoby & Meyers in Burlington, NJ, with an emphasis on family law, divorce and bankruptcy. She left Jacoby & Meyers in 1988 to form Polonsky & Polonsky with her husband, Alan, practicing family law exclusively.
With a proven record of negotiating agreements, as well as maintaining an excellent rapport with colleagues and Judges, Rita is motivated by her ability to help people through the process of divorce in a caring and comforting manner. She acknowledges that divorce is the result of the breakdown of a relationship between two people who once loved each other. Her results are driven by what is fair and honest, balancing expectations with the reality of divorce and what the law allows. In an emotionally charged process, Rita’s belief is divorce does not have to be devastating. There can be compromise.
While raising her own child, Rita developed the philosophy of supporting children and providing unconditional love in good and bad times. The process of divorce can be overwhelming, especially when children are involved. She is passionate about being of value to her clients, allowing them the space to open up and trust her to walk with them through one of the most difficult journeys they may face.

Honest and fair, easy to talk to
During my consultation, Rita spoke to me in a way that I could easily understand the process I was facing. She made me feel comfortable and I had a sense that she sincerely cared about my situation. I would definitely hire Rita and have already referred her to people closest to me.

Happy Client
Rita is a competent and compassionate attorney. She was tactful in her approach and at the same time encouraged me to stay positive as the rollercoaster of emotions that accompany the process of divorce surfaced. Her professional guidance and personal empathy during a very difficult time, were much a...

Horrible experience
Hired her at the recommendation of a friend. She never remembered anything we discussed; each meeting was a rehash of the previous and I was charged for that. I only had three things I wanted in my divorce and she gave away all three of them - too timid to fight for me. I don't recommend spending ...
Divorce in most cases is an emotionally charged and gut wrenching experience. A client will have expectations and demands as to what they believe they are entitled to. However, those expectations do not always match up with what the law allows. As a result, a client may feel disappointed in the attorney and the divorce laws in New Jersey.
"Ms. Polonsky is a highly respected attorney in our community. She enjoys a fine reputation and I am pleased to present this review. I know Ms. Polonsky to be committed to her clients and passionate with her representation. She is extremely knowledgeable in this field; keeping up to date with the new case law and state statutes governing the areas of divorce, child custody, child support and other family related matters. Ms. Polonsky is an excellent and strong advocate!"
"Rita is a colleague of mine and has also been an "adversary" in several divorce matters with me. I put that in "quotes" because she has the unique ability to figure out how to resolve matters amicably and without animosity, yet zealously representing her client's interest. This is an easy endorsement!"
