Robert Stephen Guzek Jr.

Mr. Guzek focuses his practice in the areas of brownfields redevelopment, environmental and real estate law, with an emphasis on the acquisition, remediation, redevelopment and reuse of contaminated and underutilized properties. In addition to his extensive knowledge of the redevelopment process inNew Jersey, Mr. Guzek also advises clients on a wide range of land use, real estate and environmental topics including renewable energy issues. Mr. Guzek has extensive experience with real property acquisition, including eminent domain litigation. Mr. Guzek has negotiated complex transactional agreements including Redevelopment Agreements, environmental indemnity agreements, memorandum of understanding, agreements of sale, escrow agreements, tax exemption financial agreements, power purchase agreements and option agreements, among many others.

Mr. Guzek has successfully represented clients with regard to variousNew Jerseyenvironmental statutes including the New Jersey Spill Act, Underground Storage Tank Act, among others and has provided guidance with regard to the ever changing site remediation landscape inNew Jerseyunder the Site Remediation Reform Act. Mr. Guzek has provided counsel on some of the largest redevelopment projects in the region, including providing critical environmental, redevelopment and real estate counsel for major infrastructure and redevelopment projects. 

Mr. Guzek has also provided regulatory and legal counsel to the alternative energy field, including assisting with acquisition of real property for one of the largest solar energy generation projects in the northeastern United States and providing critical guidance with regard to the Solar Renewable Energy Certificate markets in New Jersey and quickly evolving regulatory structures and the PJM Interconnection process.   

Previously, Mr. Guzek worked for over four years for the Southeast Regional office of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection in an environmental compliance and enforcement role and was involved in several key enforcement actions on behalf of theCommonwealth ofPennsylvania.
