Quite an experience!

Quite an experience! In 2010, I recruited Mark Friedlander , Esq. to represent me in a fairly simple and, on my part, meticulously documented case against the landlord that failed to provide habitable conditions in the apartment. After spending $3,195, and after being billed an additional sum... exceeding $600 for the unresolved case , which Mark originally estimated would cost me “not more than $3,000” to defend, having not reached a resolution to my standoff with the landlord, I had no choice but to break my lease with the landlord, relocate, and terminate my association with Mr. Friedlander and his law firm. The litigation is now (2013) in the Supreme Court. Recently, having asked Mr. Friedlander for copies of some documents his firm filed with the Housing Court on my behalf in 2010, he honored me with the following reply: “…I recall that you fired me…. You have access to the Courthouse and the eariler index number and can verify the deposit yourself. Given the fact that your terminated our professional relationship I am under no duty to respond to your request. Mark.” I have no words for lack of Mr. Friedlander’s professionalism, competence, and ethics. Now I represent myself in this protracted litigation.

Illusory Tenant Case

I had lost an illusory tenancy case in TL court. I was not an illusory tenant but the subtenants had hired a powerful TL firm that seemed to be extremely cozy with the presiding judge. Overturning the decision in the face of this powerful opposition was not easy, and the subtenants were wealthy and w...ell connected politically. We won the appeal, but they re appealed persistently, losing all of their appeals. It became a war of the roses that I eventually won after many years. Although Illusory tenancy is an area of his expertise, Mark Friedlander rendered a service that few attorney's could match.

regrettable choice

Mr. Friedlander was some what knowledgeable in his field. However he inconsistently responded to emails, questions or return phone calls. He was often caught in lies and soon found the be extremely unprofessional. The billing department was repeatedly vague and was consistently inaccurate with credi...ting payments and his firms charges were astronomical. He would ask to send postdated checks as as frequent practice. He showed up to court often unprepared more than once damaging my case. He also repeatedly put in new motions to increase his bills rather than end my suit. Mr. Friedlander was an extremely regrettable choice to have retained.
