Shlomo Himmel

I am the founder of The Himmel Law Firm in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where I represent individuals and families in estate planning, elder law, probate, and residential real estate.

I received my Juris Doctorate from Brooklyn Law School, my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rutgers University, and my degree in Political Science from Touro University. I am admitted to practice in New Jersey State and Federal Courts and in the State of New York.
My dual background as an attorney and a Registered Nurse is central to how I practice. I spent years working in emergency departments at Level I trauma centers, where I was present for the kinds of medical crises and family conversations that estate planning and elder law documents are designed to address. That clinical experience gives me a perspective that few attorneys can offer, particularly in matters involving healthcare decision-making, incapacity, guardianship, and end-of-life planning.

My practice focuses on wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, Medicaid planning, guardianship proceedings, probate and estate administration, and residential real estate transactions throughout New Jersey.

I served as Ethics Attorney for the Township of Edison, New Jersey, and taught Bioethics and Public Health Law as an Adjunct Professor at Hofstra University. I also serve as Assistant Chief of Hatzolah of Union County, continuing nearly a decade of service in emergency medical response.
