I’m an attorney with over twenty years experience drafting contracts, managing teams and projects, resolving disputes, negotiating settlements, and handling real estate transactions. I purchased and renovated my first home in 2005.

I know the importance of a comprehensive remodeling contract laying out the parties’ agreement, responsibilities, and expectations. It’s the best opportunity to ensure everyone’s on the same page. But signing the contractor’s document is not good enough. That contract protects the contractor. It must be revised to protect the homeowner’s interests as well.

While the contract is the foundation for a successful remodel, the homeowner must still play an active role in the process.
