Jeffrey J. Vita

Jeffrey Vita is a founding Partner of SDV, and has more than two decades of experience in pursuing insurance recoveries and crafting creative risk transfer solutions for his policyholder clients, both corporate and individuals. He routinely counsels clients on insurance and risk management issues related to the construction, manufacturing, power and energy, transportation, financial, healthcare, and real estate industries, as well as the municipal sector.

Recognized as a seasoned insurance law practitioner, Jeff has successfully tried numerous cases and has extensive experience in handling complex, multi-party arbitrations and mediations across the country. Working at both the trial and appellate levels, Jeff has obtained significant insurance recoveries on behalf of his policyholder clients.

Recently, Jeff assisted a power company client in obtaining a multi-million dollar settlement from its insurer in a contested builders risk claim arising out of a landslide that significantly damaged the project. He also impacted the national debate on construction defects as an “occurrence” by successfully arguing to the Connecticut Supreme Court that construction defect claims constitute an “occurrence” under general liability insurance policies.

In addition to his active litigation practice, he has served as an expert witness for policyholders in complex coverage actions. Jeff has authored numerous insurance coverage-related articles, and regularly lectures on various insurance coverage topics including additional insured issues, bad faith claims, priority and allocation of coverage, risk transfer and indemnity, builders risk claims, wrap-up insurance programs, business interruption, and professional liability.

Jeff is also involved with his local community where he serves as the Chairman of the Hamden Zoning Board of Appeals and participates in the local Toys for Tots program.
