I Focus on clients and their issues in a practical and goal oriented way. I aim for a particular outcome based on what the client requires. Sometimes that’s money. Sometimes it’s “other”, like a town approval or a tenant out of their unit.
My goal is always to resolve matters to my client's full satisfaction in a timely manner, within the bounds of what the law allows. Whether that is through negotiation, or litgation, or some other alternative, I have the experience to guide my clients to successful resolutions of their matters, or to connect them with other professionals who can do so. As a (relatively) young and social lawyer, I am active in the community and have developed a network of trusted, qualified legal professionals (lawyers, outside paralegals, legal advisors) who handle matters that I do not. I also have a deep network of other professionals like realtors, banks, accountants, investment advisors, non traditional funders, mortgage originators, inspectors, surveyors and environmental consultants that I work with on a regular basis who treat my clients respectfully. These personal relationships make a big difference in cost, quality, and outcome.
I also have the wonderful asset of working with my father and his 50 plus years of experience, so when I have a question, I can always consult with him. I hope to continue the tradition of excelence that my father has delivered for over half a century.
Lastly, I am deeply committed to my City, New Haven. (I love Connecticut and all it’s towns and cities too but New Haven is my #1) I have lived here for 38 years and have no intention of ever leaving. Through the zoning work I do I want to shape the physical future of New Haven for the better. Particularly, I support responsible development without unnecessary oversight or interference by anyone or anything that shouldn’t get the opportunity to erect barriers in the way of someone trying to better this City. I support the vested rights of land owners and the logical extension of those deeply important rights; development, full use, minimal interference, and so much more.
I have learned that much of being good at a job, any job, is having the personal connections with all the people that influence the outcome of a matter. At this point in my career, I think I have those relationships in place and have earned the trust from the people I interact with regularly. I aim to grow these relationships every time I meet someone new and I think it’s working. I have contact with true decision makers in government and politics and use those relationships to the benefit of my clients without apology. I maintain these relationships in a deeply honorable and appropriate way in full compliance with legal requirements and ethical standards. But I think my honesty and openness with those in “power” makes me a credible and believable partner and I expect the same honesty and integrity from my clients.

House closing
Ben made sure that our closing got done on our projected date. Everything went smooth and all was done in about 20 minutes. We highly recommend him for any service.

Highly recommended
Ben worked with me on a difficult eviction process. He proved to be highly responsive and sensitive to the stress of my situation. Ben was knowledgeable and efficient and I would recommend him without hesitation.
It was a pleasure to represent you. Many times my clients feel like their situations are out of control. Maybe their tenant is not communicating, or is saying contradictory things. My hope is that once I am involved in a matter, the client will feel like we are headed towards a resolution. Just knowing what the process will be empowers many clients, and takes away some of the stress.

Prompt and extremely helpful
Ben was very prompt, got back to me within 24 hours or emailing him. Ben gave me a consultation regarding the eviction process and even helped me fill out one of the forms. He was wonderful and if I need an attorney to continue the process I will definitely hire him.
As frequently happens, someone contacts me, tells me they have tried to talk with many other attorneys, and that no one returns their call. Its pathetic. So, all I did was pick up the phone (or typed an email which led to a phone call) and talked for a few minutes. You were very capable and could certainly handle this eviction without an attorney. I hope you are successful. If you run into any bumps in the road, you can always contact me again. All lawyers have families to feed and bills to pay but that doesn't mean that we have to ignore all calls that aren't going to put money in our pockets today. That is my philosophy. If I can talk to someone for 10 minutes and help them with a problem without asking for any money, I hope, one day when they really do need a lawyer, they will call me. So far, that's how my career has worked. And I am doing ok.

pleasure to work with
Ben recently assisted us with the closing of our house and he was a pleasure to work with. He was knowledgeable yet not condescending, and he actually had a great sense of humor which made the closing very enjoyable. When we came across some minor hiccup afterwards he was quick to get us a thorough r...

"Ben is my go-to guy for all matters concerning Landlord/Tenant. His firm goes way back in the community and it shows in the depth of knowledge he has about the way things are actually done in New Haven. He solves his clients' problems in a practical and efficient manner. As a fellow or opposing counsel he is just fair and reasonable. I act as a landlord for a house and if I ever need to evict my tenant, Ben is who I will call to represent me. In short, he's a lawyer's lawyer."
