Unfortunate experience, lack of communication

After finding Attorney Jennifer Mira through an online search and seeing her excellent reviews I hired her to do the closing on my first time homeowners purchase. Before committing to work together we spoke on the phone and I explained my unique situation and time constraints and she was enthusiastic... to help so I signed an engagement letter. The engagement letter listed what she would do and her price ( excluding title search cost). The one positive thing I have to say about this whole experience is that Jennifer seemed very knowledgeable with real estate. Over the next few months I grew increasingly frustrated and confused with the lack of accessibility to or counsel by Jennifer. She was my attorney from October-December and during that period I was only able to talk to her twice on the phone (but attempted to approximately 15 times). Every time I called her office she was unavailable; i was usually told she was in a closing or with a client and a message was taken but I never received a call back. Sometimes I was told to call back at a certain time but when I called back again she wasn’t available. It truly felt like the twilight zone and I felt helpless. Near the end of our time together I expressed my frustration through email and she said email was the best way to contact her (which she never told me during our time together). I was never offered to speak to anyone else either when I called. It got to the point where the delay in getting in touch with her was affecting the closing and I decided to hire a different attorney. I sent Jennifer an (amicable) email explaining that I appreciated the work she did (she wrote the purchase contract and collected escrow funds for closing, no further work had been done. I didn’t start the bank process yet) but due to lack of contact and therefore lack of counsel I would be hiring a different attorney to finish the house closing. I sent her my new attorneys info in that email and asked her to transfer escrow funds and asked her the price for her services thus far. She replied with a price of 78% of what the engagement letter quoted to get me through closing so I asked for an explanation of this fee and her explanation was that it was a “reduced legal fee” and the engagement letter price didn’t include the title insurance. Instead of fighting with her I sent a check to her office for this final fee and it was cashed within two days. On December 16 she said she would email a check for my escrow funds to my new attorney. A week later I called her office to check on the status of that and they said someone would get back to me (they never did). On December 27 my new attorney faxed her office requesting the funds or a status of their transfer, but no response. My lender began asking for proof of the transfer of funds to my new attorney in January so my new attorney called Jennifer’s office the second week in January with no response. Finally, my new attorney emailed her the third week in January and she sent him the funds. It was a very frustrating experience working with Jennifer and I would definitely not recommend her or her office.

I am saddened to read this review. This was a very unique situation, as the reviewer acknowledges. The reviewer did not have a real estate agent and was therefore responsible for more things herself than the average buyer. The purchase was not a normal scenario either, for reasons that cannot be elaborated on here. I counseled her through as much as I could over several phone calls and dozens of emails. The reviewer's work schedule and our business hours did not coincide, making phone correspondence extremely difficult. I dedicate a lot of time not only to practicing law, but also running a successful business. Reviews and satisfied clients are extremely important to me and the success of my practice, so I take this reviewer's comments very seriously. My firm strives to make every client feel supported, important and ultimately, satisfied with our services to feel confident returning to us and recommending us to others. I am deeply saddened that a client left my firm feeling this way, yet I am acutely aware that there are some individuals that will not be satisfied no matter how hard you work for them.

Super Star Real Estate Lawyer

I didn't have the best closing, but without Jennifer Mira, it would have been a lot worse. My hired realtor was not forthcoming with information and really wasn't doing his fiduciary responsibilities, so Jennifer figured it out and filled in at the 11th hour. She was able to process what had happened..., and communicate the issues to the selling side of the deal before things fell apart. I really messed up with my realtor hire, but nailed it with my attorney hire. There really aren't enough stars to give for her performance that day. When it comes to real estate, I wont use anyone else. She is a must hire for anything real estate related!

Dedicated and knowledgeable

Jennifer stepped in at the last minute to handle my divorce case when I had to fire my original attorney. She was professional, thorough, and personable, obtaining a new court date for us within days of the one that we missed. She worked well with my ex-husband's attorney to arrive at an equitable a...nd fair settlement. I am very grateful to her for helping me through the last days of an extremely painful and difficult process.
