Client review

I'm happy with this law firm. I have Paul Spinella as my family lawyer for the last 2 decades. He is very good on all cases he worked on my behalf and were successfully settled. I highly recommend Paul Spinella on any case that he is specialized and if the case is not her specialty he recommend y...ou to his colleague.

Stay Away from A. Paul Spinella

Once Spinella took my money, he never bothered to contact me regarding the case. It soon became apparent I was a bother to him. When he did bother to return my calls he was always complaining about one ailment or another. Not only did he not know or prepare for the case, he totally blew the argume...nt at the summary judgment meeting, and the judge threw the case out because his arguments were so poorly formed. He was given proper evidence to get to trial (because we provided it for him), but he never bothered to analyze it for argument. In essence, all he did was take a large retainer and then did little or nothing to argue the case. In fact, his understudy who he had write the brief in opposition to summary judgment made an excellent argument, but Spinella never bothered to read it, as was apparent in his oral arguments to the judge. HE SOUNDED COMPLETELY UNINFORMED AND UNPREPARED IN FRONT OF THE JUDGE WITH HIS ORAL ARGUMENT. When the judge asked him questions that we had strong answers to, he completely floundered with weak and poorly thought out answers. I found myself embarrassed to be represented by him at the meeting.

The Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution sets forth the most basic principle of criminal law: the right to know the identity of your accuser and the right to confront him. In this case I have the benefit of neither: someone who hides his true identity and provides no information as to what case it is claimed I handled on his behalf. As a result, a perfect example of why the protections afforded by our constitution are so important - if this was a criminal case I would be defenseless. It is worth noting that in my practice, I routinely represent people in difficult circumstances involved in unpopular claims with powerful state or private opponents. All of this creates a “witches brew” of motives to defame - whether it is a client unwilling to accept hard choices or outcomes, or opponents damaged in battle or looking for some advantage by unfairly criticizing. Those who know me will say without hesitation that I am hard-working to a fault; absolutely dedicated to my clients and their cases; and always, always prepared. Although I insist on being paid fairly, the key word is “fair” - I never take financial advantage and many times, because this is a profession and not just a business, I have represented clients in difficult cases long after payment has stopped, when there is good cause and to avoid abandoning fine people in the middle of a fight. I have no idea who wrote this comment, what case it involved or even if there really was a case. All I can say for whoever is concerned about this anonymous comment, please come and meet with me so we can talk personally and I can talk with you about my experience; introduce you to my staff; discuss your case at length; and respond to all questions and concerns. I promise you that this will not be a waste of your time.

Paul Spinella is a passionate, brilliant civil rights attorney

Attorney Spinella represented me in two police misconduct / civil rights cases in the Connecticut Federal District Court. We were successful in both cases. The second case went to trial earlier this year where we were successful obtaining a jury verdict in our favor for excessive force against th...e City of New London. He believed in my case and his belief was demonstrated, not only in the courtroom, but also during the endless hours of preparation that resulted in justice. Watching him in the courtroom was a sight to behold. He was magnificent and so prepared for everything they tried to throw at him. I have no hesitation in saying that he is a brilliant civil rights attorney. He is passionate about his cases and cares about his clients. I would strongly urge anyone who has had his or her rights violated to contact him without delay.

Difficult civil rights case that others would not touch

I have know Paul for many years. When we met I was in a civil rights case that 8 other attorneys would not take. He stood up for me and fought for my rights. it was a long and drawn out process and i Eventually I lost, not because of this efforts but because of a very corrupt system of government, S...o why would someone that loses the case endorse an attorney? it is because it is the right thing to do. I have used him for other matters over time and he has always been helpful.

Relationship: Worked together on matter

"I am a practicing lawyer who has witnessed and admired Attorney Paul Spinella’s legal career for several decades. He is widely recognized to be a lawyer who readily takes on difficult cases (and difficult clients) involving important issues and causes; he then pursues these cases with great competency and dedication. He is also someone who does not tread lightly, and often speaks bluntly and to the point. For all those who care little for pretense and instead value legal competency and determination, he is your man. I recommend him to anyone who finds himself headed for a courtroom battle - whether criminal or civil - and needs a seasoned warrior at this side."
