Caution - do not use

I hired Jon Leary as my real estate lawyer for the purchase of my home in CT in 2021. He came at the recommendation of my realtor, and I regret following their advice. He and his office were beyond terrible. He misquoted his attorney fees, he/his assistant wrote up the closing costs wrong despite ...multiple attempts from me to clarify (so I needed to shell out extra money right at the last minute without warning), it was very difficult to get in touch with him and his office before closing via email, text, or phone, and immediately after closing he pretty much ghosted me, leaving me with several unresolved issues regarding the home purchase costing me several thousand more. As soon as he had my money he disappeared. I cannot stress enough to stay away if you are considering using his office for the purchase of a home, I wish I had seen the warning signs and backed out. To be fair, as part of closing I did ask he refund me the difference of his misquoted fee, which he did provide during signing at closing. However, the something like $50 difference was nothing compared to the hassle, headaches, and other financial burden incurred by using his services. Do yourself a favor and ask a friend you trust for a recommendation.

I was very surprised to see Eliot's review. We closed on his home in February, which he purchased from an investor, and there were some issues at the house and we responded to each issue right away. One issue was the question of a water softner system, which Eliot thought came with the property, but it turned out that the seller had leased it. Eliot had the opportunity to take over the lease. He and I had several email exchanges following the closing. Here is one of his emails: "Hi Jon, good news is water issue is resolved, I got a call from the seller's contractor and was able to sort out the water softener and it's looking a lot clearer. He will drop off keys and a garage door opener at some point. He did already say that he had already been spraying for mold, which I was not aware of. I also got a call from the seller Bill Hawthorne who informed me that the sale of the house does not include the water softener equipment, and he rents it on a monthly contract. He said he had told his attorney to make that clear, but this is new information to me. I didn't see anything in the contract about any of the equipment in the house not coming with it - what are my options here? Best, - Eliot" This was from the day after the closing. The issue of what equipment is included with the sale is usually addressed at the time the contract is signed, and unfortunately I came into the transaction after that fact and was not made aware of the issue until the day of closing. I am sorry that Eliot had a disappointing experience, but there was not much that could be done by the time I learned about the issue.
