Mr. Poirier is a graduate of the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, and took post-graduate studies in Immigration Law and International Law at McGeorge, and under a Dana Fellowship in the Legal Offices of the United Nations in Vienna, Austria and at Salzburg University. Mr. Poirier’s undergraduate education was at Loyola-Marymount University in Los Angeles.
Mr. Poirier is licensed by the Supreme Court of New Mexico. He is authorized by the Rules of Professional Conduct and by the federal immigration authorities to practice immigration law nationwide. He practices only before the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of State and does not offer advice on state law matters outside of New Mexico.
Mr. Poirier has given Continuing Education courses to attorneys and other professionals in the areas of Legal Ethics, Human Resources Law, and Immigration Law.
Mr. Poirier has provided expert testimony before Congressional Committees and the U.S. International Trade Commission on international business and investment, and immigration law.
Mr. Poirier has taught undergraduate Business Law and International Business at New Mexico State University.
Mr. Poirier is a chapter author for the American Immigration Lawyers Association publication “AILA’s Immigration Practice Toolbox,” (Second Edition, chapters on H-1B, E-1 and R-1 visas)
Mr. Poirier is also a chapter author for the West Publishing / Kluwer International book “Legal Aspects of Foreign Investment in North America,” – the author of the chapter on foreign investment in New Mexico.
