Biography
Matt has spent the last 15 years fighting for you.
He has brought litigation in the state and federal courts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts and has won real results for his clients: both in and out of court. These cases have included personal injury, medical malpractice, commercial real estate, construction injury, corporate law, workers’ rights and civil rights.
Matt is the City Solicitor of the City of Central Falls and previously served as senior counsel for the Mayor of Providence and as Deputy City Solicitor for the City of Providence. He has served as legal counsel to the Providence Planning Board, the Providence City Council Committee on Ordinances, the House of Representatives' Committee on Small Business and the House of Representatives'Committee on Labor
Matt received his B.A. and graduated magna cum laude from Brown University and received his law degree from Roger Williams University School of Law. Matt’s law review article “Gentrification’s Third Way” was published in the Harvard Law and Policy Review.
Matt honed his legal skills by working at Motley Rice and DeLuca and Weizenbaum, Ltd. Before entering the legal profession, Matt was the founding executive director of Rhode Island Jobs with Justice, a consultant for the Governor’s Commission on Race, Police and Community Relations and an organizer with District 1199 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
Matt previously created the award-winning political blog in 2005 before selling it in 2008. He has appeared in the Wall St. Journal, the Phoenix, the USA Today, the Providence Business News, the Providence Journal, WRNI, Newsmakers, NPR's All Things Considered, NBC 10 News Conference, Daily Kos, RI Lawyers Weekly and was named 1 of the most 8 notable Rhode Islanders in 2008 byThe Providence Journal.
In his free time, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and their 3 young boys. He also serves on the Board of the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence, the Rhode Island Urban Debate League and the Cranston Conservation Commission.
