Brian R Cunha

Brian Cunha, with a law office in Fall River, has performed a wide variety of different roles in his career. No matter the role, the main thrust of his professional life has come from being a lawyer fighting for victims against insurance companies. 

Over the last 35 years, Brian Cunha has become a highly regarded personal injury trial attorney. He is recognized as an authority on personal injury law. His results are outstanding having won or settled cases worth over $200 million. 

His clients come from Massachusetts and Rhode Island and all the way from North Carolina. His cases include car accident cases, and class actions against the manufacturers of Vioxx, Phen-fen and the Dalkon Shield and Medtronic Pacemakers, Baycol. Additionally, Attorney Cunha has represented the clients in several well known cases, including the R.I. Station Fire as well as the MTBE Drinking Water Litigation in Rhode Island.

Brian Cunha earned a Bachelors degree from Boston College in 1971. After college he worked as a high school math teacher while attending an MBA program at Boston College. 

In 1974 Mr. Cunha was accepted into law school. While Mr. Cunha attended Suffolk Law School, he was chairman of Newbury College’s marketing department. In 1976, he graduated law school and gained admissions into the bar in 1977. To start off with, he worked in Fall River, Massachusetts in a partnership with two other attorneys working on civil and criminal cases. In 1986, he opened his own practice with offices in Fall River, Rhode Island, and New Bedford. 

He has been recognized by Lawyers Weekly, making it to their annual survey of top verdicts and settlements for Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Mr. Cunha is often featured in the national press, which recognizes his successful representation of his clients’ cases. More recently, he has made contributions in the form of articles in major newspapers, writing on protecting injured persons’ rights. He is a frequent guest on television shows include news broadcasts, The Rhode Show and local news casts. 

He is a member of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, the Boston Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Rhode Island Bar Association. He is also on the Rhode Island Trial Lawyers Association’s board of governors. He works to protects plaintiffs’ rights, especially regarding personal injury legislation relating to personal injury law in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Attorney Cunha has been on the board of directors of the Brain Injury Foundation’s Rhode Island Chapter, is a fellow of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, an honor enjoyed by only 2% of trial lawyers. 

For almost twenty-five years, he’s provided a total in excess of $ 100,000 in annual college scholarship awards for deserving high school students in East Providence and Fall River. In addition, he’s donated to the City of Fall River an original Felix de Weldon Iwo Jima Memorial statue.
