Both Parents Needing Care

The children of two seniors came to see us. Their mother was residing in a nursing home and the father in assisted living. The combined costs were quickly depleting their savings. We advised a thr ... ee-part strategy: We applied for MassHealth for the mother. Although the parents had excess assets for MassHealth eligibility, we were able to establish the father's need for the excess assets to help pay for his assisted living care. Further, after MassHealth had been approved for the mother, we were able to advise the clients in obtaining VA benefits to provide additional support for the father's assisted living care.
