You've still got over 6 months before the visa expires. Travel will not affect the extension filing in any way -- unless you are being sent back...

Recommend you keep the F1 active till you know what is going to happen to the asylum case.
Can H4 visa interview be attended in India while H1B status is pending (or get approved before India H4 interview date) in USA?

If H1 is approved and she plans to work, she should get it stamped before re-entry into the US. If she enters on the H4, she cannot work on the H1...
