Jonathan Goulding

Jonathan Goulding founded Goulding Law Group after a public-service career that spans nearly every side of the immigration system. He has served as an Immigration Judge, an Assistant United States Attorney, and a senior lawyer with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, giving him insight into how cases are adjudicated, how agencies defend decisions, and how those decisions can be overturned. In immigration court, Jonathan handled adversarial removal cases and ruled on asylum and related protections, adjustment of status, cancellation of removal, and citizenship claims. Before the bench, he was an AUSA in the Eastern District of Michigan, coordinating cross-border and national security investigations involving issues such as fraud, smuggling, identity theft, export violations, and terrorism-related offenses, and representing the United States in civil litigation, including APA, FTCA, and FOIA matters. He also spent more than a decade with ICE’s Office of Chief Counsel in Detroit, litigating thousands of cases and leading strategy on national security and human-rights-related dockets, including denaturalization and citizenship disputes. Jonathan is known for candid, practical advice and creative problem-solving. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from Ave Maria School of Law, holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University, and is admitted to the Massachusetts Bar.
