The election to be taxed jointly is not something she can revoke. She can only amend the return with your consent.

Check with a CPA or tax attorney, it may be too late to amend the return. If filed on time 4/15/2012 your mother had until 4/15/15 to amend the return

You need to have a lawyer review the will. Sometimes their are clauses that require survival by a certain amount of time to inherit.

Once an heir receives the inheritance the money is theirs and creditors can get to the assets.

The w-9 is used to confirm your social security number and report the income to you an a 1099 at the end of the year. The request sounds reasonable.
