Back in 2008, represented by another attorney, Client admitted to sufficient facts to a drug possession charge. At the time, Client was a not a citizen of the United States, although he had been here ... since childhood. Client applied for citizenship a few years later and was shocked to learn that he was ineligible and could now face deportation as a result of his 2008 continuance without a finding in Fall River District Court. Client retained me to try to reopen the case so that he would be able to avoid deportation. I conducted extensive legal research and prepared a 45-page filing in support of a motion for a new trial. In court, I successfully persuaded the judge to allow the motion, and then negotiated with the prosecutor to dismiss the charge in exchange for a $150 fine.

I persuaded the judge to vacate the restraining order, after demonstrating contradictions in the wife’s affidavit, and getting wife to admit that in 8 years of marriage, Client had never harmed her or their son.
