Ellen M. Giblin

Ellen Marie Giblin is internationally recognized for her years of legal and risk management expertise in privacy, data breach, data protection, cyber security and information management.  As Privacy Counsel for the Ashcroft Law Firm, Ms. Giblin assists clients by advising them on how to prevent and respond to a breach of their systems through the entire protected information lifecycle.

Prior to joining The Ashcroft Law Firm, Ms. Giblin was Privacy Counsel at Littler Mendelson P.C., a large international labor & employment firm.  Ms. Giblin advised clients in all aspects of data privacy by conducting risk assessments, developing information security projects, policies and procedures and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. She is a subject matter expert on risk management, information management, vendor management, US and EU data protection compliance, privacy policies and procedures, information governance, social media and its acceptable use in the workplace as well as electronic monitoring and background investigations of employees.

Before joining Littler, she supported RBS Americas, Inc. as a Senior Risk Manager and Privacy Officer for Citizens Financial Group, Inc. where she focused on consumer and commercial business lines in a highly regulated and complex international financial institution. As a Senior Risk Manager and Privacy Officer at Citizens Financial Group, Inc., Ms. Giblin provided advice and guidance in all aspects of privacy law, data protection, risk management, vendor management, training, pre-employment screening under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, compliance with GLBA, HIPAA, ADA, FMLA, FINRA, state date protection laws and issues regarding cloud computing in the digital workplace.  In addition, she possesses a vendor management, records management, information protection, and data breach response background and extensive US, Canadian, EU model clauses and compliance and cloud services contracts negotiation experience while holding a managerial position in the Legal Department at Iron Mountain. 

Ms. Giblin obtained her Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School in 1985, as well as a Masters of Higher Education degree from Boston College in 2005. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Massachusetts in 1982. Giblin is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals, where she serves as the Boston KnowledgeNet Co-Chair, the Boston Bar Association, where she serves as Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property Section Privacy and Data Security Committee, and the Massachusetts Bar Association.

Ms. Giblin currently lives in Marblehead, Massachusetts with her family. Ms. Giblin is very active as a Suffolk Law School alumni mentoring two law students and judging the ABA Contracts Negotiation Competition. She also serves on the Canadian Advisory Board of the IAPP.
