Bridget A. Sarpu joined Bay State IP as an associate in August 2015. A Registered Patent Attorney, Bridget has experience in a broad range of intellectual property issues, in a number of different technical areas. Bridget is proficient in advising clients with various IP counseling including patent, trademark, trade dress, and copyright issues.
Bridget has experience in representing clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She prosecutes both US patent and trademark applications. Further, she continues to gain invaluable experience prosecuting international patent and trademark applications, for example, Bridget has assisted in prosecuting Patent Cooperation Treaties (PCT) applications and has also aided in handling matters before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Bridget first joined Bay State IP as a law clerk in the summer of 2014 and continued to work with the firm throughout law school. She graduated from Suffolk University Law School with cum laude honors. At Suffolk, Bridget focused her studies in Intellectual Property. With Distinct Honors, she graduated with an Intellectual Property Concentration, with a Patent Specialization. She also received the Stanley W. Sokoloff JD “66 Intellectual Property Award, awarded to a graduating law student who demonstrated high academic achievement in the intellectual property concentration.
Bridget also served as the Editor-in-Chief of Suffolk University Law School’s Journal of High Technology Law, where she authored and published the legal note: Google: The Endemic Threat to Privacy, 15 J. High Tech. L. 97 (December 2014).
Bridget is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Furthermore, Bridget is a member of a variety of associations including the Boston Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Smaller Business Association of New England, and ChIPs (Women in Intellectual Property group).
Prior to joining Bay State IP, Bridget interned at various government agencies throughout Boston. She served at the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, where she was familiarized with various consumer law and business regulation issues including consumer protection 93A claims, unfair competition, privacy and identity theft, data security, landlord and tenant law, lemon law rights, and more.
Prior to law school, Bridget worked as a science teacher at an inner-city high school in Chicago, where she was also the women’s varsity basketball head coach.
Bridget earned her biology degree from Stonehill College and her Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Suffolk University Law School.
