Mike was active in a variety of activities when he was growing up. He was an Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts, and later an Assistant Scoutmaster. In college, he was active in student government, and worked to help pay his way through school. He graduated with honors from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1982.
