Marietta has its own epic place in American history. The second most populous city in Georgia, Marietta’s city square was the site of the Great Locomotive Chase during the Civil War. Militia trained in the Marietta Square, and it was also the location of a military hospital.

The Chase was a military raid where Union Army volunteers took over a train and commandeered it to Tennessee, damaging the Atlanta Railroad line as they went. They eluded Confederate soldiers and locomotives giving chase along the way.
