You are going to need to get the opinion of an attorney in Colorado, and I'm sure someone else on here will chime in. As far as negotiating the bills, I always do this on behalf of my clients. Depending on how high your meds are, and if you don't have your own health insurance, I would also recommend looking at what they expect an insurance company to pay (often about half the charged amount) and then try to negotiate down from that amount. It can be a very tricky area and I would definitely...

Christopher had a very good point on this. A lot is going to depend on the conditions of the vehicles and so gather all the witness statements you can and pictures. You have to prove it to them, they really don't like paying out money.

You have to determine if the amount of the bill is more than it is worth it to you to have it reported to your insurance. He can report this to your insurer if he chooses to go that route, but I certainly think it is reasonable for you to be able to get another estimate from a name-brand repair shop. A lot of it depends on the amount you are talking about, for an extra $100 it probably isn't worth the trouble, if it is $2,000 to fix a scratched bumper, that's another story. Best of luck
Not to sound parental in tone, but I would highly reconsider co-signing on a loan with a friend. You never know what will happen in the future and be ready to be held accountable for the payments if your friend can't cover them. What happens if the insurance bill doesn't get paid and the car is totaled and your friend can't pay it off? Guess who they are going to come after? It has nothing to do with your friend, it is simply a bad idea that has turned out very badly countless times. Best of luck
I am not sure of the law in California, but I would definitely ask Farmers for a copy of the information they used to come to their evaluation of your lost value claim. Ask them for a list of the comparables they are basing their assessment on. I would imagine you have small claims court in California and I'm sure an attorney out their will give their opinion on where to file.
