William Edward Nethery

I have been practicing law in Georgia, and originally in Tennessee, for more than 25 years.  My primary area of practice has been criminal defense.  I retired from the DeKalb County, Georgia, Office of the Public Defender in March, 2004 as the Deputy Chief Assistant Public Defender.  My duties included defense of death penalty cases (more than a dozen during the course of my career); defense of Major Felony cases (more cases than I care to recall); participation in all personnel decisions for an office of 35 lawyers and 60 total employees.  Those duties also included supervision of the attorneys assigned to 4 Superior Court Divisions; training and mentoring young attorneys; and consultation with all attorneys and investigators throughout the office.  In addition to an intensive trial and litigation practice, I also handled appeals on occasion.

My present solo practice involves general criminal defense; appeals and habeas corpus litigation; and a rapidly developing business practice.  My plans include living part-time in the mountains of East Tennessee in addition to my permanent residence in the Buckhead Community of Atlanta.

For fun, I travel, write fiction, ride my Can Am Spyder, support my beloved University of Tennessee Volunteers, and I try to play a little golf as time permits.
