Poor Listening Skills

...this should maybe not be a shock, as lawyers are paid to talk and argue, but when the listening skills are this poor, they indeed impinge on the lawyer's ability to talk and argue effectively. A stodgy old family lawyer who may have been half decent in her day, but... To be specific, I consulte...d with Ms. Wilson about a family court matter, in which Support Enforcement was coming after me for the children's health care costs. They were doing this simply because they can (they have since rescinded their efforts). My divorce decree (from 10 years ago) stated that I should cover healthcare costs. This made sense at the time, as I made 72k and my wife didn't work outside the home. Times have changed.. I currently work long hard hours but make only about 34, while my ex-wife makes more than me (in a separate house of course). The problem is not my ex-wife btw. We get along well, and she is in agreement that going by this old order would be unfair, and is willing to shoulder half the health costs. My question to Ms. Wilson was: am I allowed to petition the court to allow HUSKY to continue with the kids (which they are currently on, satisfactorily), as they/we meet the income guidelines? Ms. Wilson was adamant that this couldn't be done, and that, further, HUSKY was actually the source of my problem, not an arbitrary and powerful Support Enforcement agency (she turned out to be wrong about this). Speaking to Ms. Wilson was frustrating in that she wanted to answer questions I wasn't asking. (In her defense, she probably just wanted to get me out of the room and get to the next person, as I was availing myself of one of those state-sponsored free legal consult programs.) She became upset when I (very politely) repeated my specific questions, at one point talking to me through GRITTED TEETH! (Yes, people really do that I guess.) I realize I very well may have caught Ms. Wilson on a "bad day", but all I can do is report on my one meeting with her. I can assure you that I was nothing but polite and deferential to her, and she was rude and dismissive toward me.
