    Caveat Emptor for Brian Todd

I hired Brian Todd to take over my direct appeal (I was a client) because my appellate attorney failed to argue a closed courtroom and jury issue. My family and I paid Todd thousands of dollars to do this. What did he do? Todd took my paperwork and money, then failed to communicate with me or my family. Instead he wrote to my original appellate attorney and told them he was available to help if needed--That was not what I hired him to do. He failed to argue my issue, and now, rather than the burden being on the state, it is on me to prove prejudice; not a good situation to be in. My family and I had to take Todd to small claims court to get our money back--which he did return only after that.

    Another opportunity to live life...

I was facing a sentence, if convicted, that was the equivalent of a life sentence. Brian was my attorney. From the beginning, he was thorough in his investigation, his research, and his communication with me. He explored every option for my case and developed a practical strategy for my defense. I went to trial facing a maximum sentence of 756 months. Brian made all the right moves, he did an excellent job with opening and closing arguments, as well as, direct and cross examinations. We won! I was acquitted and now have another opportunity to live life in the land of the free.

    surprisingly engaged in my case!

Mr. Todd surprised me with his involvement with my case. I have had attorneys before, but none put forth the effort that Brian Todd and his staff did. If I had a question, it was answered truthfully. Brian Todd has a profound understanding of the judicial system. I don't say this lightly, but I was impressed and satisfied with the outcome. If I EVER need legal help again, you gotta know who I am calling..

    Highly Disappointed

I hired Mr. Brian J Todd at the end of Oct 2011 to do my legal separation only to be extremely disappointed and lost all complete faith in him. It was a matter of urgency that my motions for temporary orders be dealt as soon as possible, not only was there a delay not once, not twice, but three times which were all in Brian's error. There was a lack of communication, lack of filing court documents in a timely fashion, and a lack of securing court motions in a reasonable fashion. Because of all these numerous errors, and Brian not doing his job, I had to let him go and find a different Lawyer in Dec 2011. Not only did Brian take my full retainer but is charging me in addition. I would not recommend Brian to handle your divorce/legal separation as this area does not seem to be his area of expertise.

Brian James Todd’s response: “This client came to my office with a short time-frame in mind to fill out paperwork and file for a divorce. This client also wanted an immediate motion to get a temporary order in place for child support and maintenance. All of this was taken care of within a few days. This client had their divorce filed within two days and had a motion hearing on a temporary order within a couple of weeks - the time frame which is required by the court rules. It takes time to put together the initial paperwork for filing a divorce especially when children are involved. It also takes time to be properly prepared to aggressively represent a client when going into a motion hearing where there is a request for temporary child support and temporary spousal support. It also takes time to put together all of the necessary and required paperwork for a temporary hearing. Unfortunately, this client's demands and expectations of what they thought they would be getting as far as representation and as far as a court order were FAR above what ANY attorney would be able to get. For example, this client was requesting an amount of spousal support that was not even allowed for by statute. Several members of our office staff visited with her and responded to her inquiries and tried to explain to her what to expect. In the end, as you can see, nothing met this client's expectations at all. This client indicates that they have since gotten new counsel; however, after reviewing the court file, no new attorney has appeared for them. Additionally, after this client discharged our office, the court has since sent out notice that they are not in compliance with the case schedule. Our office prides itself on helping the best that we can within the powers and resources of all of the staff members here. We always listen to clients and do our best to be responsive to their questions and concerns. However, sometimes there is just nothing that can be said or done to make a client happy. Unfortunately that was the case with this client. I wish this client the best as I do with all of the clients that my office and my office staff get to work with. I certainly hope that this client found someone that can help them understand and navigate through the treacherous path that is domestic and divorce law in the State of Washington.”

    Great overall person

Mr. Todd helped me and my family. Came to our house to sit down with my family and I and gave us my best options. He did not dance around the facts with me, and I respect that in him. I recommend Mr. Todd to anyone with criminal charges.
