    Take a look at the contract with the company. Have you contacted you own insurance company? I would make them detail all damage.

    Penalties depend on the specific nature of the violations and both local and Federal Laws. It is not a good thing to do. I would talk with your DMV to discuss what needs to be done to compile with all required laws.

    Does he have an employment contract? If so, I would review the contract. I would also ask his employer for the insurance agent for the truck. He could talk to the agent about coverage. I would have him ask the employer why he should pay and try to work it out.

    From what you have set forth, it would appear that you did nothing wrong. These are tough situations wherein it is likely to cost you more for an attorney than the value of your claim. Have you contacted your own insurance carrier to discuss. That may be your best option.
