This is more a qustion of landlord tenant law that of insurance law. My recomendation would be to talk to an insurance agent or broker about getting a renters policy that would both satisfy the insurance requirements in your lease and insure your personal property.
Generally, an insurance company would be under no obligation to help resolve this type of problem. Sometimes, an insurance company or an agent will agree to send a letter or provide advise as a customer service. If you are concerned about your family's safety, you should consider hiring an attorney.
