Issues as to what a custodial parent can and cannot do are generally answered by looking at the parenting plan. Parenting plans that are properly drawn will delineate what parent has the right to make decisions for and on behalf of the "child." Many times the decision making will be delineated as "joint" in the parenting plan. I would suggest you examine the parenting plan for the proper guidelines. Can a legal separation be converted into a divorce in Washington state?

Asked by a user in Kennewick, WA - almost 3 years ago.

Generally speaking a change from a legal separation to a dissolution of marriage is done by a simple motion. If one party asks for the change it is granted. Unless child support issues, visitation and or custody issues will again arise, the costs should be much less than those for a legal separation.
