Jeff Jones and his partner, Thomas Bingham, represented the families of several of the victims of the crash of Alaska Airlines Flight 261 which crashed on January 31, 2000 off Pt. Magu on the coast ... of southern California, involving a McDonald-Douglass MD-80 aircraft. Actions were required to be filed in both the State of California and the State of Washington. After substantial pre-trial discovery all cases were resolved by way of confidential settlement.

State v. Steve Titus was a highly publicized criminal case in which Mr. Jones took on the defense of Steve Titus, an innocent man, after he had been wrongly identified by a rape victim and convicted by ... a jury of First Degree Rape. Working with Seattle Times reporter Paul Henderson, who later won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting of this story, Mr. Jones was able to establish new evidence and convince the trial judge to grant a new trial based upon trial irregularities and newly discovered evidence. Prompted by the investigation conducted by the defense team, local law enforcement agencies eventually identified another suspect who eventually confessed to the crime. All charges against Mr. Titus, which carried a mandatory prison term, were dismissed.

PLANE CRASH - Jeff Jones represented the parents of a young woman who was killed when a Cessna 402B aircraft crashed on takeoff from Marsh Harbour Airport on Abaco Island, in the Bahamas. The occupant ... s of the aircraft were in the Banamas to work on a music video for hip-hop singer and actress Aaliyah Houghton, who also was killed in the crash. Ms. Smith worked for Ms. Houghton's record company which was producing the music video. The litigation involved lawsuits in the states of California and Florida against defendants located in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami. After substantial pre-trial discovery the claim was settled.

PLANE CRASH - On September 12, 2001 a flightseeing tour to the Mayan ruins in Chichen Itza, Mexico was arranged for University of Washington football fans on a Holland America Cruise. The cruise was a ... rranged around the UW vs. Miami football game. Aero Ferinco was the local commuter airline which was hired by Holland America and tickets were sold to passengers by Holland America. The plane crashed on takeoff from Chichen Itza on the return flight and all 16 on board were killed. Our law firm was retained by the families of 8 of the 14 fans that were on the flight. Lawsuits were filed by our firm in Florida against the individual who sold the plane to the Mexican airline, and in Washington against the airline, the tour agency who arranged the tour and Holland America. All of the cases in Washington settled. Our law firm was the only firm who continued to pursue the seller of the aircraft in Florida after our clients and the other plaintiffs settled in Washington. After 9 years that case was settled in early 2010 by way of a confidential settlement.

PLANE CRASH - Our firm represented the family of two individuals who were passengers in a private aircraft which crashed when a vacuum pump manufactured by Parker Hannifin, Inc., and overhauled by Aero ... Accessories, Inc. failed. The pump was installed by Dodson Aviation in the state of Kansas, where the aircraft was owned before it was sold to a Washington resident. We were required to file lawsuits in North Carolina, Kansas, and the state of Washington in order to assure that we obtained jurisdiction over all parties. We succeeded in obtaining jurisdiction over the out of state companies in Washington State. After substantial discovery and many motions the cases were settled.

At that facili ... ty their mechanic conducted an annual inspection of the accident aircraft and failed to detect that the vaucuum pump which had been installed previously by Dodson Aviation, Inc. was defective because its age could not be determined. A lawsuit was filed in Kansas and after a great deal of discovery and many motions, including successfully defending against the County's attempt to remove the case to federal court, the case was settled.

Our firm was involved in representing victims of the Reno Air Race Disaster which occurred on September 16, 2011, in which a contestant, Mr. James Leeward, crashed his P-51 aircraft into the crowd of ... spectators, causing 11 deaths and nearly 100 injuries. Our firm was active with the committee of Plaintiff attorneys pursuing negotiation of a plan for resolution of the victims' claims with the Reno Air Racing Association and with the Estate of the Pilot, ultimately culminating in the creation of a compensation fund for the victims, funded by the $100 million insurance policy of the Race Association. We subsequently pursued our clients' claims through the compensation fund, obtaining full compensation for our clients' damages.
