SSI benefits cannot be garnished, but Social Security disability benefits can be garnished in very specific circumstances: to enforce child and alimony obligations, pay federal tax and debts owed to the IRS, and pay debts owed to federal agencies. Call or visit your local Social Security office, and check with your divorce attorney, for answers based upon your specific facts. Good luck.

Follow up with the Social Security office in your area, preferably in person. They may decide to investigate whether a new payee is necessary. Good luck.

Much depends upon the type of "Social Security benefits" you are receiving. For instance, if you are receiving Supplemental Security Income payments ("SSI"), the agency will terminate payments - you cannot continue to receive SSI payments outside of the coutry. If you are receiving Disability Insurance Benefits, the entitlement of which comes from your work history, then generally, you may be able to continue receiving your benefits while residing in another country. If you are a U.S....

Are you receiving auxiliary benefits for your child as the representative payee? If so, then your former spouse is not likely to be receiving any benefits. This is fairly easy to determine and resolve by going to your local Social Security Administration office, however. While you are there, if you find that she has been receiving such benefits during the time you've been the custodial parent, you should ask whether Social Security can charge her with an overpayment and refund the benefits...
You should telephone Blue Cross and ask whether and how you may remove him from your policy. Before doing that, you need to speak to Social Security to determine whether there would be any negative consequences to that action. Do NOT call the 1-800 number. Instead, contact your local office; in fact, you should have a customer service telephone number on your Medicare card. Another route is to check your private Blue Cross policy to see if it addresses the issue directly as to whether it...
I do not practice this type of law; you should consult an attorney in your area who does so. However, I wanted to comment on the text you received. In Washington State, where I practice, if you respond to the text, you would be violating the no contact order (NCO). Be very careful because, even though he initiates contact, your responses are violations. Good luck.
According to the social security administration, social security disability benefits may only be garnished in a few specific scenarios: to enforce child and alimony obligations, pay federal tax debts owed to the IRS, and pay debts owed to federal agencies. SSI benefits cannot be garnished. It is unclear from your question whether you already have alimony ordered. Your divorce attorney will be more familiar with the exact facts of your case, and will therefore likely be able to answer your...
The answers to your questions depend upon whether you are truly receiving SSID, or SSI. The latter is a "welfare" type of payment and looks at your income. Very generally speaking, SSDI is not offset by other non-earned types of income. However, if your pension comes from a job that’s not covered by Social Security — for example, the federal civil service or certain state, local or foreign government systems — the amount of your benefits will probably be reduced. The Social Security...

You have 60 days from the date of the denial letter to file your appeal. You also have an "additional" 5 days for mail time. As of today, you may still be within the 65 days (60+5) in which to file your appeal. If so - go to your local office, file the appeal, get a date-stamped copy for your records. If you are outside of the 65 days - go to your local office to give a statement of "good cause" and ask for extension of time. In fact, write your letter of good cause - why you couldn't...
As you know, SSI past due amounts are paid in three installments: $2,000; $2,000; and then the remainder. You can go into your local office and explain to them why you need the remainder of the remainder of the funds now. They will likely work with you. Good luck.
