Matthew D Scott

About me

Matthew D. Scott received a Juris Doctorate degree from McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California.

He worked as a California State Bar-certified law student advocate and later as a team leader at the pro-bono Elder Law Clinic at McGeorge, assisting elderly clients with estate planning, Medicare/Medi-Cal issues, landlord/tenant disputes, and trust litigation.

Mr. Scott has worked for various law firms in the Sacramento region, focusing on estate planning, probate and trust litigation, estate administration, Social Security Disability, family law, and workers' compensation.  He opened his own practice in 2011.

A vigorous advocate of alternative dispute resolution, Mr. Scott has taken courses in negotiations and settlement and has completed over 40 hours of mediation training.  He has assisted opposing parties to resolve their disputes without the need for court trials.

Prior to law school, Mr. Scott received a Bachelor of Music degree from Brigham Young University, where he studied vocal performance and Spanish.  He has performed in several countries and sung in nearly a dozen languages in solo and ensemble appearances, including a performance in Carnegie Hall.  In the fall of 2011, he released a debut solo album under his own label (MDSMusic), which can be heard at www.matthewdscott.com.

Mr. Scott is fluent in Spanish, having studied the language for over 10 years.  He lived in Mexico for two years and worked as a Spanish teacher at the university level for over four years.  He remains active in the Hispanic community and travels to Mexico as occasion permits.

Mr. Scott lives in Elk Grove with his wife and two children.
