Can I receive payment from a verbal promise/agreement?

Asked by a user in Elk Grove, CA - over 3 years ago.

When people don't keep their promises willingly, then they will have to be forced to unwillingly. Here, I suspect your ex broke more than just a verbal promise to you. He can't just take your name off titles without breaking the Law or having you sign them off. And if the property was the suject of a divorce action, then the responsible judge will have jurisdiction and have an obligation to see that your assets are divided fairly. So go back to the Court and have the DA or your divorce...

What is a provisional patent application and how can I file for one in New York state

Asked by a user in New York - over 3 years ago.

Some patent attorneys file a lot of provisional patents, and others refuse to file any. We think provisional patent filings can be smart and effective in particular instances. First of all, a provisional patent application is not a substitute for a nonprovisional (regular) patent application. Nor is it a cheap way out. But if you have really good technical papers, like a conference whitepaper or a journal article draft, and your Invention is going to be displayed publicly in less than a...

Can I appeal a patent application that was denied

Asked by a user in Boston, MA - over 3 years ago.

Keep your focus, don't get sidetracked with punishing lawyers and competitors. Put your energy into improving what you invented, and improving over what the car company is doing. Don't just invent one winner and quit. As far as deciding what's patentable and what's not, I would leave it up to the USPTO to reject your Application. So file a good Application, and argue the heck out of any rejections. Just documenting your idea isn't enough, you must file an application.

Can I move to another state with my minor child without my husband's permission?

Asked by a user in Otto, NC - over 3 years ago.

Estranged and ex-husbands could and would do great mischief if the Courts allowed them that power over you. So as a practical matter, the answer is no. If there are no custody orders, you can take her where you want. If there are custody orders, you need to have been awarded custody, and look for any prohibitions in those orders. You must not hide the child, refuse to pay support if ordered, refuse legal visitation, etc. Moving your home farther away in and of itself is not a deliberate...

Tenant's rights under WA state landlord tenant act, tenant's rights and responsibilities when breaking lease

Asked by a user in Federal Way, WA - almost 4 years ago.

The cleanest way is to try to negotiate with the Landlord and get some sympathy and understanding for the forces pushing you into a corner. Failing that, and if you wish a legal ruling, then pay what the Landlord demands and bring a Small Claims suit for a refund of what the Landlord is not legally entitled to. (Don't sign any papers on your way out.)

How can I get out of my lease from a promise of a verbal agreement?

Asked by a user in Bear, DE - over 3 years ago.

Probably your Lease says that its writing constitutes the entire agreement between the parties and no external agreements will be binding. You can't just stop paying rent. Reason with the Management, and ask to be released from your Lease. Next time, write the items that are promised to be fixed into the Lease.
